When I first ordered coffee through the post, I sent an email to complain.

Why?

Because it had bits in it.

I thought it had gone off.

Turns out, I’d just never had proper freshly roasted coffee before. I was used to the dark, over-roasted supermarket stuff that tastes like burnt toast in liquid form.

The company were brilliant about it, though. They replied kindly and explained that light roasted coffee has those little particles — that’s where all the flavour and oils live.

It’s like the first time you crack open a pistachio and realise they’re green, not beige like the ones in the multipack snacks.

Now days I know what I'm doing!

I'm not a super coffee snob I just like good fresh coffee I have a V60 (and an aoreprss for when I want a short quick coffee.

Anyway…

That moment stuck with me because it reminded me of something important about marketing (and business in general).

When you start anything new, you don’t know what you don’t know.

You might think you’re doing it wrong. You might even email to “complain.”

But the truth is, you’re just learning.

Every “mistake” teaches you something. Every confusion leads to clarity.

And before you know it, you’re the one explaining to someone else that, “Actually mate, it’s supposed to taste like that.”

So don’t wait until you “know it all.”

You learn faster when you just get stuck in.
